Chile. According to the results of the VII National Television Survey, delivered at the end of August by the National Television Council (CNTV), 95% of viewers believe that open television should be regulated to ensure better content, while 89% believe that the same should happen in the payment option.
Similarly, thanks to the responses of the 5,047 people between 16 and 80 years old surveyed, an increase in the number of Chilean households that have access to pay television was detected, this item went from 43.3% in 2008 to 63.1% in 2011.
Regarding programming preferences, 79.5% of respondents prefer newscasts, 54.4 films, 34.1 reports and 21% football; on the other hand, children's programs take 17.3% of the preferences and telenovelas 13.4%.
On the other hand, of the consumers of open television, 38.2% said they were dissatisfied due to the entertainment content and 18.7% named the low cultural programming. In the case of pay TV, 55% said that their dissatisfaction is due to the repetition of programs.
Finally, regarding the implications of the massification of digital terrestrial television, an alarming 84% said they did not know what its characteristics or advantages were and did not know the technical requirements necessary to access it.
