Colombia. The lawyer Carlos Pablo Márquez (photo) assumed as new director of the Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, an entity of great importance for Colombian television, since since April of this year he is one of those in charge of regulating it.
Carlos Pablo Márquez had been appointed by the Presidency of Colombia as commissioner of the CRC on October 22. He came to this position after experience in the public and academic sectors, he had been serving as Delegate for the Protection of Competition before the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
The new Director of the CRC is a Lawyer and Bachelor of Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, with a Master's Degree in Economics, a Master's Degree in Legal Sciences from Harvard University and a PhD in Competition Law from the University of Oxford.
Among other positions, he has served as a research professor at the universities Javeriana, Externado de Colombia, Eafit and Rosario. In the public sector, he has been an advisor to the Ministry of the Interior and Justice and the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
Carlos Pablo Márquez replaces Carlos Andrés Rebellón, who was in office from November 2010 until the end of September this year, when he submitted his resignation citing personal problems.
But his resignation came four days after the Attorney General's Office ruled against him in a challenge filed by the company Claro, which had requested that the director be oblivious to any decision the CRC made about the company because Carlos Andrés Rebellón had worked for the competition, UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones.
