GatesAir Brings ATSC 3.0 to Low-Power Systems

GatesAir lleva ATSC 3.0 a sistemas de baja potencia

Latin America. GatesAir has introduced a new cost-effective, ATSC 3.0-compliant platform that prepares its low-power TV streaming products for the opportunities offered by next-generation television in the near future.

The new platform is based on a high-efficiency modulator that provides the processing power needed to optimize ATSC 3.0 power in GatesAir's low-power UHF transmitters, including PMTX-1 outdoor transmission systems.

GatesAir developed the modulator based on new field-programmable integrated circuits (FPGAs) that enabled a cost-effective ATSC 3.0 solution across its entire line of low-power UHF products, which also includes Maxiva UATK Ultra-Compact transmitter solutions and Maxiva UATK-OP high-efficiency air-cooled UHF DTV transmitters. The modulator's software-defined architecture, based on GatesAir's award-winning Maxiva XTE exciter for medium-high power transmitters, offers the added value of providing a field-upgradeable path from ATSC 1.0 to ATSC 3.0 transmission.

Available now, ATSC 3.0 modulation on Maxiva's three low-power UHF lines is the ideal time, as more consultants begin working with broadcasters on ATSC 3.0 network planning designs. While the majority of NextGen TV broadcasts are currently conducted using lighthouse configurations that allow multiple broadcasters to share infrastructure and bandwidth from a central location, the next generation of ATSC 3.0 deployments will include more single-frequency network (SFN) designs that leverage multiple low-power synchronized transmitters across the broadcast market.

GatesAir's energy-efficient products are ideal for SFN designs that require various transmitter designs, including the Maxiva UATK Ultra-Compact and PMTX-1-UK outdoor transmitter systems, which can be configured as low-power transmitters, translators/retransmitters, or filler devices. This is especially true of the PMTX-1-UK, which can be mounted on poles, towers, or buildings in virtually any location thanks to its weatherproof housing, minimal circuitry, and maintenance-free architecture.
