The CEO of the Swiss telecommunications operator Swisscom, Carsten Scholter, was found dead on Tuesday morning at his home, according to the company, which explains that the police believe it is a case of suicide.
"Swisscom is mourning the death of its CEO, Carsten Schloter, whose lifeless body was found this morning at his home in the Freiburg area," the company said in a statement.
The Swiss operator points out that the police believe that Schloter's death is a case of suicide and adds that an investigation is underway into the exact circumstances of his death. Out of respect for the family, no further details have been revealed.
"The board of directors, the executive committee of the group and the entire staff are deeply saddened and convey their condolences to his family and relatives," said the chairman of the board of directors.
The Deputy CEO and Head of Swisscom Switzerland, Urs Schäppi, will take over the management of the company on an interim basis.
Carsten Schloter joined Swisscom in 2000 as Head of Swisscom Mobile and was appointed CEO of the operator in 2006.
