Yahoo! considers acquiring Qwiki for $37 million, according to AllThings D

MADRID, 18 Jun. (Portaltic/EP) -

Yahoo! is considering acquiring Qwiki for $50 million (€37.3 million), sources familiar with the situation told AllThings D. It is an application for iOS that allows you to convert photos, music and videos into short films automatically.

The American company Yahoo! and its CEO, Marissa Mayer, continue in their efforts to make the company continue to be a tough competitor on the Internet but also to gain a foothold in the world of mobility. For this, since the arrival of Mayer from Google as CEO of the company, the management of Yahoo! has approved a series of acquisitions of small 'start-up' that will help the American in this objective.

Continuing with this effort, the next to fall would be the 'start-up' Qwiki. According to sources familiar with the situation to the blog All Things D, Yahoo! considers offering 50 million. These same sources have assured that Qwiki and Yahoo! are in advanced stages on the acquisition.

Qwiki has recently launched that app but it started as a multimedia search offering, with another iPad app creating video summaries, as well as other video creation tools for storytelling. Last year, it partnered with ABC News on a publishing platform to quickly create interactive stories.

This is another acquisition target for Yahoo!, which in recent months has carried out a series of acquisitions, most of them low-cost mobile application companies. In addition, from AllThings D they assure that the American company was close to acquiring the Xobni contact application for between 30 and 40 million dollars (22.4 and 30 million euros).
