The Pentagon gives the go-ahead to Apple devices along with BlackBerry and Samsung

El Pentágono da el visto bueno a los dispositivos de Apple junto a BlackBerry y Samsung

MADRID, 20 May. (Portaltic/EP) -

Apple has received the go-ahead from the PENTAGON of the United States for its team members to use devices of this brand. Thus, Apple joins BlackBerry and Samsung as safe brands for the U.S. Government.

The U.S. campaign to renew the devices used by members of its departments continues. On this occasion, the Pentagon of the United States has analyzed the iPhone and iPad of the Apple company to check their security and know if they could be suitable to protect confidential conversations and files.

The analysis has been favorable for Apple, which enters the bidding for a contract with the Pentagon that could suppose a large amount of economic benefit, as well as prestige, to be used by the rulers of the United States.

In this way, BlackBerry, the Pentagon's supplier until now, sees its status as a trusted manufacturer in danger, even more, after having questioned the security of its new BB10 operating system with a first examination carried out by the Pentagon that obtained negative results for the brand.

For Apple, which previously focused more on users than companies, the high-ranking approval guaranteed by the Pentagon is a big shift in its image as a brand, assuming, for some analysts, a decisive step for the company in the commercial sense.

However, Samsung has the lead in this battle in which they have been for months. Proof of this is Knox, a hardened version of the Android operating system, created by Samsung expressly to obtain contracts of this nature and consolidate its dominance as the main manufacturer of 'smartphones' in this market, characteristic of the company.

"The department approved Knox's STIG [technical security implementation guidance] before the product was still available on the market, which we see as a positive example of close collaboration between the government and manufacturers delivering the latest technology to meet the needs of the Department of Defense," Lieutenant Colonel Damien Pickart told the Guardian.

The process of choosing a new supplier for the devices of the United States Government will last even a few more months in which Apple will be able to catch up in front of its fellow disputes.
