The Spanish subsidiary of France Telecom, Orange, increased its total revenues by 0.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013, to 989 million euros, as reported by the company on Wednesday, which has specified that excluding regulatory impacts revenues would have grown by 3.3 percent in this period.
The company managed to offset the fall in mobile revenues of 2.3 percent, to 741 million euros, with the 16 percent increase in fixed revenues, to 209 million euros. On the other hand, with the sale of Orange equipment it reached a turnover of 36 million euros, 6.1 percent less.
The firm ended the first quarter with a total of 13,615 million customers, of which 12,179 million are mobile telephony and 1,436 million fixed broadband.
Specifically, mobile customers increased by 4.7 percent compared to the first quarter of 2012, with an increase of 9.7 percent in postpaid users, which, with a total of 8.49 million users, already account for 70 percent of the customer base, compared to the decrease of 5.2 percent of prepaid customers, whose base amounted to 3.68 million users.
The company has highlighted that during the period it multiplied by 1.6 the number of mobile broadband customers who connect through USB devices or their smartphones, going from 3.5 million in the first quarter of 2012 to 5.6 million at the end of the first quarter of this year.
MORE OMV SERVICES AND 3G COVERAGELikewise, Orange's network serves 1,576 million customers of mobile virtual operators (MVNOs), which is 9.2 percent more than the 1,443 million of the previous year.
Thanks to the investments made for the modernization of the mobile network and the use of the new frequencies of 900 Mhz, Orange has already reached 97 percent of population coverage with 3G technology, 6.1 percent more than last year, the firm said.
FIXED BUSINESS REVENUE UP 16%As for the fixed part, where it improved its revenues by 16 percent, to 209 million, the firm totaled at the end of the quarter a total of 1,436 million customers, 11.1 percent more.
Converged services customers already account for 49 percent of the total broadband base, with year-on-year growth of 29 points. In addition, Orange has one million customers to whom it offers Voice over IP service, 23 percent more than the previous year and 70 percent of its total base, leading the residential market of this business segment.
The firm has pointed out that of the 1,436 million ADSL customers it had at the end of the first quarter of the year, more than 80 percent (1,198 million) were in the ULL zone (totally disaggregated loop).
