New version of Creative Suite Production Premiun

During NAB's last expo in Las Vegas, Adobe announced a new suite of products for the creation of video, audio and interactive content, content that can be offered online, on air or on devices.

During NAB's last expo in Las Vegas, Adobe announced a new suite of products for  the creation of video, audio and interactive content, content that can be offered online, on air or on devices. Version 5 of Adobe Creative Suite Production Premiun contains new versions of various components such as Adobe After Effects CS5, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended, Adobe Illustrator CS5, Adobe Flash Professional CS5, Adobe Soundbooth CS5, Adobe OnLocation CS5, Adobe Encore CS5, Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5, as well as integration with Adobe Story, part of the new Adobe CS Live line of online services.

The new version includes native 64-bit support on all Windows and Mac platforms. It also brings the long-awaited Adobe Mercury Playback Engine, expanded tapeless workflows, and a new automatic tool for rotoscoping. These features can accelerate workflows from script production to post-production, increasing productivity and helping editors, filmmakers, visual effects artists, and broadcast and post-production professionals assemble great stories and create immersive media experiences for any screen.

The new Mercury Playback Engine allows users to open projects faster, refine sequences rich in HD effects in real time and playback complex projects without the need to render in advance. Based on NVIDIA's parallel processing architecture, this GPU-accelerated 64-bit engine allows users to see results instantly when applying multiple color corrections and effects across multiple layers of video. It also allows you to work in real time on complex timelines and long-form projects with thousands of clips, all in SD, HD, 2K or 4K.

Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop are now applications that run on 64-bit natively, on both Mac and Windows, offering better hardware utilization and faster, smoother work. These applications are designed for tapeless workflows so that users can edit their recordings immediately after being transferred from the camera, without the need to transcode. In addition to previous support for P2, XDCAM EX and HD formats, and AVCHD, support for XDCAM HD 50, AVCCAM, DPX and AVCHD and better integration with RED has now been added. The logging possibilities for tapeless cameras offered by the new Adobe OnLocation CS5 put the finishing touch to this integration with tapeless flows.

Michael Bergeron of Panasonic referred to Adobe's new suite in the following terms: "With Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium, Adobe has enabled archive-based workflows to be streamlined using Panasonic's P2 cameras, from start to finish. Users can use the advanced logging options of Adobe OnLocation CS5 when working with P2 cameras even at the time of recording. Adobe has expanded support for tapeless streams by natively including AVC-Intra support for importing, playback , and editing AVC clips. Intra natively in Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 without the need to transcode or repack. Adobe was the first company to support tapeless streams for our Panasonic P2 formats in Premiere Pro. Now, this support has been expanded through various components of the Production Premiun suite. Adobe and Panasonic are helping to create a more efficient scenario for file-based video editing and acquisition."

FOR HIS PART, Ted Schilowitz, from RED, highlighted Adobe's commitment to providing native support to RED ONE and a continuous improvement  of workflows and compatibility of RED files with Adobe's Production Premiun suite, which includes, in the new CS5 version, the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine. "The industry is adopting the RED camera to create 4k images. People realize the advantages of recording in higher resolution than HD for movies, TV commercials, music videos, documentaries and more, and Adobe provides a developed, cost-effective workflow for native composition and editing of RED's R3D format."

In the field of special effects, the Production Permiun CS5 has incorporated new tools in AfterEffects and Photoshop. Also noteworthy is the new version 10.1 of Flash Player, optimized for high performance on mobile screens. Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5 allows you to design interactive mobile video portfolios without writing a line of code. Finally, Adobe CS5 Production Permiun integrates with existing Final Cut or Avid Media Composer streams in projects that require collaboration from multiple users.

XMP Metadata

Audio and video assets are data. Information about these assets is metadata, or metadata, for the plural in English. Metadata can be used to manage media assets, make productions more efficient, streamline archiving and retrieval of materials, and ultimately help make content more captivating and illustrative.

For example, video metadata may include technical information such as the frame rate at which a certain shot was recorded. While technical information is regularly generated by the same camera or other equipment, there is other information that the user can include directly or be created by production software. For example, in Production Premiun, the OnLocation app can generate metadata such as scenes, casting, and locations from a script that is imported from Adobe Story, a service offered by CS Live.

Production Premiun applications support the XMP metadata format, which means they can be used to capture and embed descriptions, titles, keywords and copyright information, using a format that is understandable by users as well as other software applications and even hardware devices. Being an open source and extensible technology, XMP is available to developers and allows industry agents to create information-rich files based on a standard and participate in the creation of optimized workflow solutions.
