Latin market is progressively adapting to 4K, although slow

Latin America. Although the Latin American market is progressively adapting to higher resolutions, such as 4K, this will be done gradually, mainly in sports broadcasts, said Tyke Manalang, Sales Director for Latin America at Hitachi Kokusai Electric America.

"The Latin American market is slowly adapting to 4K. The issue is whether 4K is a different format and in the same way can be transmitted with the mechanisms present in the television stations. 4K content is limited, basically. to sports. Maybe some major broadcasters in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, I think those are the most important markets," he said during his participation in NAB Show 2018.

On the subject of 4K, Manalang mentioned: "Tv stations probably invest in 4K cameras, but it is still very limited. At Hitachi we have been able to enter the 4K market but not with large television stations, basically with universities and production houses."

And he described: "This Major Studio in Argentina; in Peru we have sold some cameras to the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Sales have focused on 1080p cameras, due to the systems that are occupied in those locations, which is understandable because it does not make sense to invest in equipment of higher image quality, because they would obtain the same results. He said: "The transition to 4K is slow and the standard in the rest of the continent is 1080p. I think you're taking this change in the United States, where people have greater purchasing power for these issues. But the transition is very slow: the content is mainly sports, not even news. The content can be Netflix in movies, but not on TV. Even in sports you can get 4K content in 24 hours that only provides four to six hours, in baseball, hockey or basketball."
