Sony expands its line of Full HD cameras with 4K and HDR

Latin America.  Sony introduced a basic and accessible camera system for studio and live productions prepared for 4K and HDR with the combination of the latest HXC-FB80 portable camera and the HXCU-FB80 camera control unit (CCU).

Based on a 3G-SDI platform with 1080/59.94p capabilities, the new system is ideal for broadcast, sports, conference, event, religious ceremonies, education and government applications, where production professionals require high-quality HD solutions with the possibility of migrating to 4K and HDR productions.

Since its debut in 2015, the current HXC series has been adopted worldwide for major broadcasters, outdoor vehicles and educational institutions. Based on the experiences of these customers, Sony enhances its Full HD system camera to support 4K conversion and HD HDR production in order to expand its applications of use. The HXC-FB80 camera has the same configuration options as its predecessors - the HXC-FB80H (camera structure only), HXC-FB80K (with 2/3" HD lens, portable viewfinder and microphone) and HXC-FB80S (with 2/3" HD lens and large viewfinder).

The HXC-FB80 camera expands Sony's HXC product line and shares many features in common with the current HXC-FB75. The new camera continues to offer a signal-to-noise ratio of 60 dB with high sensitivity F12 at 59.94Hz or F13 at 50Hz – ideal for shooting in low light – and a variety of processing and coloring capabilities in the camera.

The CCU converts HD content to 4K (3840x2160) and provides 12G-SDI output in addition to quad-link 3G-SDI output. From the second quarter of 2018, an HD HDR output that supports Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) will be available through a firmware update.

The camera has three 2/3" Exmor CMOS sensors and offers progressive operation from 59.94Hz to 1080x1920 between the camera and the CCU using a 3G platform. The camera also allows filming at 23.98 PsF for productions that require a cinematic appearance, including interviews and magazine-type programs, along with filming at 25 PsF or 29.97 PsF.

In addition, the ND filter can be controlled remotely using the camera's new filter servo motor in addition to the electric DC filter.

In particular, the possible distance between the camera and the CCU is extended up to 600 meters, maintaining the extension of 10 km by means of a single-mode fiber cable with local power supply. Together with the HXC-P70 unit, the cable length can be extended up to 1,000 meters with the power supply provided by the new CCU. In addition to a Neutrik connection interface, a LEMO connection interface is available for the camera and CCU.

The HXC-FB80 system can be controlled remotely not only by the front control panel of the CCU but also by remote RCP operation including PC-RCP (HZC-RCP5) and the MSU (Master Configuration Unit) system for multi-camera applications, ensuring system scalability.

The HXC-FB80 camera and the HXCU-FB80 camera control unit are scheduled to be available from January 2018.
