Mega chose GatesAir to implement digital TV

Chile. Chilean television network Mega selected GatesAir to support its transition and national deployment of digital TV. Scheduled for deployment in the coming years, the launch will include more than 50 GatesAir Maxiva high-efficiency transmitters in at least 23 cities.

The project will include liquid-cooled and air-cooled UAXTE Maxiva ULXT transmitters with power levels ranging from 300 W to 5 kW.

Mega, a private television station and long-term customer of GatesAir, chose the company for its ability to meet various technical specifications at all power levels and system configurations in a large number of locations.

This ISDB-T-based project includes integrated remux functionality to support multi-channel services; increased energy efficiency to reduce utility costs and energy consumption; and an exceptional modulation error ratio (MER) to reduce noise within the DTV signal and increase its performance throughout the network.

Saul Ureta, Technical Manager of Mega, stated, "As we get closer to Chile's 2020 analog TV blackout, Mega is accelerating its digital TV transition plan to ensure robust and reliable coverage across the country as soon as possible. To ease our concerns, it was critical to have a company as strong as GatesAir and its Maxiva transmitter brand. Our decision provides us with the full trio of high-quality technology, cost-effectiveness and excellent service and support."

GatesAir will add more value through comprehensive support initiatives including training at its manufacturing center in Quincy, Illinois. In addition, GatesAir's local facilities will simplify maintenance through the rapid delivery of common hot-swappable spare parts. GatesAir's strategic initiatives around minimizing spare parts simplify system management and manpower for engineers, while accelerating field upgrades through simple, modular upgrade processes.
