Meditel Peru and GatesAir reassigned four TV channels

Peru. Several TV channel relocation projects in Peru were carried out by Meditel Peru and GatesAir technology, which brought its expertise in RF site planning and transmitter design to ensure seamless TELEVISION service transitions at four Peruvian broadcasters.

"As the 700MHz band offers several technical advantages for broadband Internet services, the Government of Peru made the decision to allocate it to Peruvian telecommunications for the purpose of improving 4G LTE coverage in rural and urban areas," said Bruce D. Swail, CEO of GatesAir.

While the compensation of the 700MHz focused on helping telecommunications and their customers, Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications rewarded these broadcasters with subsidies to acquire new transmission systems. All were upgraded to high-efficiency liquid-cooled or air-cooled Maxiva systems based on environmental conditions through energy, regional climate and other operational factors.

"GatesAir's proven ability to manufacture and deliver transmitters quickly to support new channel assignments made them the ideal choice for our customers, coupled with Maxiva's exceptional performance and unprecedented high-efficiency benefits that reduce footprint, energy use and maintenance," said Bernardo Vértiz, commercial manager, Meditel Peru.

All four-channel relocation projects have been successfully completed, with each broadcaster now operating on its new frequencies:

• Caracol Comunicaciones S.A.C: Previously operating on Channel 51 as Éxito TV, this station migrated to Channel 29. This new channel assignment caused the station to run from the spectrum immediately adjacent to the 700MHz (692-698MHz) band to 560-566MHz. The station installed a GatesAir ULXT transmitter at 9000 W in Lima, depending on the ULXT's liquid-cooled architecture to significantly reduce cooling loads and related energy costs.
• Empresa Radiodifusora Virgen de Copacabana E.I.R.L: Previously operating on Channel 55 (716-722MHz), this station migrated to Channel 33 (584-590 MHz). Channel located in Puno (3,825 masl) at a power level below 1500 W, the station installed a GatesAir UAX air-cooled transmitter equipped with redundant and dual exciters, capable of field migration to support digital television services.
• Empresa Interamericana de Radiodifusión S.A: Previously operating on Canal 55 (716-722MHz), this station migrated to Channel 17 (488-494MHz). It is a channel of the branch of the Universidad San Martín de Porres Norte, Chiclayo in Lambayeque at 1500 W, this station also installed a GatesAir UAX air-cooled transmitter equipped with two redundant exciters capable of field migration to support digital television services.
• Cibermedios Producciones S.C.R.L. Previously operating on channel 53 (704-710MHz), this transmitter migrated to channel 41 (632-638 MHz). Operating from Cerro Quiritimayo in Cajamarca at 3000 W, the station installed a GatesAir UAX air-cooled transmitter with an adaptable software-defined exciter for future DTV services.
