Colombia. TVyVideo+Radio spoke with Toni Hernández, director of photography and founder of the LED panel manufacturer Thelight, who serves as Commercial Director for Latin America, Spain and Portugal. He talked about the work they do with a set of electronic, mechanical and lighting engineering specialized in high-power LED applications.
Both the technology and the products developed by Thelight are specifically designed, manufactured and aimed at cinematographic, HD and digital photography lighting so that both the quality of its light and the precise calibration of its chromaticity guarantee the perfect chromatic reproduction according to the international standards of color space for shooting with professional cameras.
It is noteworthy that the technological innovation that Thelight represents for its ability to vary color temperature, combined with obtaining a high cri color rendering index, together with a high light efficiency, is possible thanks to the participation in the company of the Technological Center specialized in optics and colorimetry of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona.
In his visit to Colombia during the International Light Show, he exhibited some elements belonging to the Velvet Collection and its three lines, Velvet Mini, Velvet Light and Velvet Power, without neglecting Articulated Panels Studio. Toni Hernández said that "We are developing a range resistant to rain and with small models that we have opted for the Congo Store, with the lines that solve the problems of the rainy weather they have in Bogotá. The model presented here is small, rain-resistant and we have larger equipment adapted for television studios."
Luis Pinto: What is Thelight technology?
Toni Hernández: The core of our technology is the UME (Minimum Light Emission Unit), composed of two high-efficiency LEDs with color temperatures selected in the Velvet series, plus our own control software. In the Articulated High-Power series we added a third color-specific LED, plus a specially designed Fresnel lens.
L.P.: What are the advantages of Thelight technology?
Toni Hernández: It allows to obtain a very high light power, instant ignition, remote control for color temperature variation, luminous intensity (without affecting the color of the light) and green / magenta adjustment, all with very low consumption, minimum thickness and weight and long service life. The luminaires are enormously versatile due to their compactness and possibilities of digital light adjustment, which makes the use of color filters unnecessary.
L.P.: Why the colorED LED?
Toni Hernández: When using luminaires for cinematographic applications, the color temperature is not enough, it is also necessary that there are no gaps in the spectrum. The Warm White and White LEDs we use allow us to obtain a wide range of color temperatures covering the entire spectrum of visible light, while their precise mixing produces a good CRI. The contribution of the LED of a specific color, with an extreme thoroughness in the selection of its BIN, allows to fill the gaps in the spectrum and raise the CRI value throughout the range, while the precision of the control software maintains the green/magenta correction within the pattern chromaticity line.
L.P.: Can I connect my luminaire to any Control Unit?
Toni Hernández: Our Control Unit VAC has been designed to be able to power and guarantee the same quality of light between all THELIGHT luminaires. No problem if you accidentally mix Control Units and luminaires: you can connect it with the peace of mind that the light emitted by any of your Thelight products will always be correct. Care! The Control Unit VDC has been designed to power batteries exclusively to the 4LIGHT luminaire.
