Blackmagic announced new version DaVinci Resolve 12.5.1

Latin America. Blackmagic Design announced the availability of a new version for its professional editing and grading program. DaVinci Resolve 12.5.1 allows you to process ProRes files when using Windows, as well as providing improvements over the filters available in ResolveFX, and offers other advances for editing and making color adjustments. DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio users can get this update for free from the Blackmagic Design website.

The new version of DaVinci Resolve allows you to decode ProRes files directly on Windows, so you no longer need to install QuickTime 7. The trimming and editing of material recorded with multiple cameras in this operating system has also been optimized, since now the program uses its own 64-bit code to read and create files .mov. Likewise, Windows and Linux users will be able to appreciate improvements in the reproduction of content in H.264 format.

On the other hand, editors have the possibility to select elements from the labels, markers and colors assigned to the clips. In addition, editing decision lists include markers that can span multiple frames, and the various editing tools have been improved when viewing the timeline in full screen. In the Color module, DaVinci Resolve 12.5.1 allows you to reduce spatial noise more quickly by using the best quality option and aligning keyframes for different versions of color grading in the timeline. This update also provides new types of curtains by using low-resolution reference clips, an improved list of masks in the nodal structure, and other advancements related to the distribution of the Qualifier and 3D panels in dual-screen mode. The new features provided by version 12.5.1 will allow editors and colorists to streamline certain specific tasks they perform on a daily basis.

DaVinci Resolve 12.5.1 also includes new effects in the ResolveFX option. On the other hand, a dynamization of the same has been implemented through the use of the graphic processing unit, and additional parameters and controls have been added that offer a greater variety of creative options.

With this new update, DaVinci Resolve Studio users will have the ability to apply chromatic corrections for the left or right eye when editing three-dimensional images in the nodal structure, obtain stereoscopic content from monoscopic material, cache clips included in sequences and three-dimensional nodes, and copy settings in Dolby Vision format by clicking with the middle mouse button on a capture. It is also possible to create stereoscopic clips from original files with different resolutions, in order to compare different versions of the same shot.

Additionally, DaVinci Resolve 12.5.1 allows you to render using the H.264 standard on Windows and decode HEVC files on Linux. This update not only provides support for the use of the X-OCN (Sony) format and alpha channels in DNxHR 444 content, but also provides improvements to the AAC compression algorithm and avchd clip processing (.mts), among other features.

"DaVinci Resolve 12.5 offers more than 250 innovative features and endless additional advancements. The response from users has been very positive. This is one of the most extraordinary versions of the program and has been downloaded with unprecedented speed. It's really wonderful!" said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. "The improvements implemented in this new update are the result of feedback from professional editors and colorists around the world. It's extraordinary to see how the program is increasingly being used to edit content, and we are committed to continuing to improve it to transform it into an unparalleled tool."
