Latin America. Sony introduced the second-generation BVM-X300 OLED monitor, which provides users with more flexibility and more features for HDR and 4K production applications.
Starting in October 2016, this new version of the BVM-X300 will feature updated firmware version 2 and will include HDR EOTF and support for additional features, new hardware with an HDMI input that makes it easy to connect with cameras or Blu-ray players, and a second 4K 3G/HD-SDI input that makes system integration easy.
The firmware upgrade from the BVM-X300 to version 2 also offers new display functionality for HDR production, including:
• Hybrid HDR EOTF Log-Gamma setting, compatible with the new ITU-R BT.2100 standard
• The new EOTF called S-Log 3 (Live HDR) offers easier camera control for live production
• New one-touch relative contrast modes (1/2, 1/3 and 1/4), allowing HDR images to be displayed with higher peak luminance
• Faster access to the status menu page (color space, EOTF, user-predefined functions and more)
Since the launch of the BVM-X300 in early 2015, industry-leading post-producers have been adopting it for color grading and for monitoring and quality control in TV shows and movies. "This monitor has become the de facto benchmark for 4K and HDR color grading in post-production, and is also making its way into sets and mobile production," said Daniel Dubreuil, senior product marketing manager for professional monitors.
"These new updates make the BVM-X300 even more flexible as production requirements become more demanding," he added.
Current BVM-X300 owners who wish to add the HDMI input and the second SDI input will need to contact a Sony support center. Implementation will require modifications to the hardware and software that will entail expenses. The alternative of upgrading only to firmware version 2 is also possible.
