NAB. Edgeware announced its new TV CDN architecture, specially designed to overcome the challenges of delivering TV content and services over traditional CDNs. The unique, adaptable three-tier architecture is the only approach that can lower costs, provide content owners with control over the distribution of their services, and provide TV services without buffering, without delays, and without technical problems.
"The key to delivering TV services over IP networks is to optimize every part of the TV service distribution system in the most appropriate way, combining the scale of centralized cloud infrastructure with hardware-accelerated distributed technologies that can deliver highly personalized TV broadcasts," explained Göran Appelquist, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of Edgeware. "This architecture is the only possible way for TELEVISION providers to provide high-quality television services at scale without high costs."
Edgeware's CDN TV architecture enables network operators, cable TV companies, broadcasters and OTT content providers to tailor TV service delivery for a large number of viewers, provide any combination of services, gain insight into audience behavior, and ensure a great TV experience. Edgeware's CDN TV architecture offers:
- Content Control: Creates a library of TV content with ingest, live-to-VOD, and cloud DVR features running on Edgeware's cloud infrastructure
- Network Services: Connects audience to content through request routing and load balancing by leveraging Edgeware software-defined network services
- Content Delivery: Offers personalized streaming of TV services to each viewer using hardware-accelerated servers that provide content caching, repackaging, pause-live TV, ad insertion, watermarking, and encryption. In addition, the architecture supports a software-based delivery server, if you prefer
"It's critical that vendors stay up-to-date with the growing demand for personalized content," said Tom Simpson, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Cincinnati Bell. "The power of Edgeware's TV architecture allows us to provide an adaptable full-service solution that meets the individual needs of our video subscribers."
As part of its TV CDN architecture, Edgeware also today announces its new software products designed to control the core video resources used to create the final stream, such as creating VOD content from live television and controlling advertisements.
Whether for the initial implementation of the CDN for television or to offer low-demand services, these software products are all you need to deliver television broadcasts directly to the audience. As needed, the architecture can be expanded to a full CDN for television, allowing it to operate on a massive scale. This suite of software will be available during the course of this year.
