Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, published on its Internet portal the "Catalog of Accessible Mobile Devices" for people with disabilities in which they can search for the mobile device that best suits their needs prior to their purchase.
The Catalogue is the result of a joint effort between the IFT and the Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF), an international organization based in Belgium interested in mobile and wireless technology, in order to endorse the commitment to provide access to telecommunications services on equal terms. This effort, which is consolidated on this date on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, was born from the need to provide information to users with disabilities about the national offer of mobile devices that have accessibility functionalities.
For the IFT it is very important to provide access to telecommunications services to all users and this is achieved through providing them with information and resources that allow them to make informed decisions.
"It is the first effort made in Latin America, we believe that this is a good step taken by the IFT with the MMF to promote the access of people with disabilities to telecommunications services, since through this tool the user will be able to know the accessibility functionalities of the mobile equipment available in Mexico", said Aderbal Bonturi Pereira, Director of Latin America at MMF.
