TLCI, new light evaluation standard

International. The TLCI (color index in film/television lighting) is the new standard for evaluating lights and luminaires used in the film and television industry. Previously, it was necessary to use an expensive spectroradiometer to make spectral measurements and to have a computer installed with data analysis software to obtain accurate TLCI values.

Now, you have a much more comfortable and smart option: the world's first portable smart spectrometer "Lighting Passport" and the smart iPad app "Spectrum Genius Studio (SGS)".

In recent years, LED technology has advanced tremendously, and LED lighting has become increasingly stable and advanced. Thanks to these advances, there are a growing number of solutions in the film and television production sector that  offer LED lighting equipment with a long service life and efficient energy consumption to replace traditional lighting equipment.

However, compared to traditional incandescent light sources, LED lamps are not always the best choice for the film and television production industry if they do not undergo proper review and classification.

Asensetek, maker of "Lighting Passport," the world's first portable smart spectrometer, spent the previous year developing a smart application that met TLCI standards set by  the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). This smart app was dubbed "Spectrum Genius Studio (SGS)," and gives users the ability to get all the information related to the TLCI quickly and easily. In June, we will do the formal launch.

When used in conjunction with "Lighting Passport", the SGS allows professionals such as producers, colourists, lighting technicians and technicians to obtain complete and detailed information about the TLCI from a specific light source or from the entire installation. With just the touch of a finger, you'll be able to have immediate access to all the readings and information on your iPad.

You can easily store and save measurement results, or share them with your colleagues or customers instantly. You can also set your Fresnel or "flood" lighting data as reference lighting (TV lighting consistency factor).

On the other hand, the SGS not only offers information about the TLCI, it also gives you additional parameters such as CRI, SCC and CCT that will help you make better decisions. For colorists and technicians working in post-production, the "Advice for Colorist Table" offers the best references for making adjustments to luminosity, chromaticity and tonality. Cameramen can use this guide to adjust their camera when needed. On the other hand, visual effects editors can increase or decrease the brightness, chromaticity  and tonality in each of the sectors 12 chromatic sectors to obtain an optimal final result.

With the development of the advanced "Lighting Passport" spectrometer and the innovative iPad application "Spectrum Genius Studio (SGS)" Asensetek wants to help professionals in the film and television industry and offer them an optimal way to choose the most suitable LED luminaires.

With these useful aids, they can choose the best filters, make the necessary adjustments in the cameras and save a lot of money in post-production costs, always so high. In the near future, we will continue our work on innovation and launch the same TLCI app for Android tablets and smartphones running iOS and Android operating systems.
