PXW-X70, Sony's new XDCAM camera

Latin America. The PXW-X70 is the next generation of the XDCAM family and workflow associated with XAVC, a new high-warm format for news productions, documentaries, and even events. It incorporates a 1.0" inch Exmor R CMOS sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels.

Even larger than the Super 16mm film frame, the sensor offers high resolution and fantastic low-light performance, as well as greater depth-of-field control to meet today's diverse filming requirements.

The new camcorder can record in high definition in XAVC Long GOP and offers 422 10-bit sampling at 50 Mbit/s. Thus allowing a workflow of broadcast quality, being increasingly adopted by productions in different professional applications.

It has high sensitivity and fantastic resolution with 14.2 million effective pixels that provide dazzling details and colors, even in low light. The lens offers 12x optical zoom, which can be increased up to 24x with the Clear Image zoom maintaining a maximum resolution thanks to technology that increases the resolution of contents. Zoom performance can be doubled at any point with a digital extender up to a maximum of 48x.

It is a compact and lightweight camcorder that fulfills multiple adaptable professional functions. It weighs less than 1.4 kg, which includes the XLR handle unit, the battery (NP-FV70), the sunshade and a large viewfinder. It offers professional interfaces such as 3G-SDI and HDMI output connectors plus an XLR x 2 handle with zoom lever.

Other professional features include a manual lens ring that intuitively controls zoom and focus, ergonomic grip with large zoom lever, two SD memory card inputs for simultaneous/continuous backup or recording, and a three-level switchable ND filter.

It offers a variety of options depending on the application required, including XAVC, AVCHD, and DV® file-based recording. When recording to XAVC, the PXW-X70 uses the MXF file format and efficiently compresses Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution with the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec. Image sampling is 4:2:2 10-bit with high-efficiency Long-GOP compression at 50 Mbps, 35 Mbps or 25 Mbps. Built-in Wi-Fi functionality for remote monitoring and control versatility.

The company indicated that it will add more functionalities for the future. Over the next few months, Sony will make upgrades to 4K and live file transfer and streaming features over Wi-Fi.
