New Sony licenses for HDC cameras

Latin America. Sony has secured new prepaid software licensing agreements for its HDC Series cameras, offering users of Live Production systems greater flexibility and significant cost savings. The new software licensing agreements will allow users of Sony Live Production systems to purchase temporary licenses that enable 59.94P/50P, 24/25PsF, Super Slow Motion 2x* and 4:4:4+ RGB User Gamma frame rates, reducing the level of initial investment required and allowing Sony customers to future-proof their businesses without "jumping in." banking."

Until now, only permanent software licenses were available for HDC Series cameras, so users could shoot in different formats. However, this new licensing model will allow users to acquire license keys that will enable them to easily change formats without being tied to long-term licenses.

The new licensing scheme for the HDC-1700, HDC-2400 and HDC-2570 models covers different term options – permanent, 30 days and 7 days – allowing producers to acquire the specific licenses they require for each particular production. Due to the nature of licensing, licensing costs shift from a capital expenditure (Capex) to an operating expense (Opex).

Sony was the first to offer cameras with software licensing programs, and now expands this offer to temporary licenses of seven or thirty days. This change will allow rental companies to offer customers a "Swiss army knife" that will allow them to meet the individual needs of a wide range of customers and markets.

In addition, it will strengthen companies looking to offer production facilities as a service, while traditional broadcasters will be able to update their licenses easily with an excellent cost-benefit ratio.

Julio Lam, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sony Professional Solutions Latin America, said: "The introduction of prepaid software licenses for the HDC Series aims to offer greater flexibility to users. We recognize that customers have varied their needs and often want to be able to switch between different formats easily, without incurring significant costs. In addition, this licensing model will reduce the level of initial investment and modify the mode of impact of licensing costs on the balance sheet, freeing up money to spend in other areas."
