Guatemala. Due to the delay that the Guatemalan government has in the process of adopting digital television with respect to other Latin American countries, the Superintendency of Telecommunications recommended accelerating this process.
According to the plans of the president of Guatemala, Otto Pérez Molina, the search for the analog blackout will allow the State not only to modernize television, but also to take advantage of other advantages for the benefit of public services such as health, security and education and internet broadband, thanks to the fact that television would stop using part of the spectrum.
Currently, the Guatemalan government and the Superintendency of Telecommunications are analyzing what will be the model of digital television that they will adopt. For this investigation and to make a decision, a period of one month has been given.
The information that has emerged in the media is that the Guatemalan government would be analyzing two models, the North American and the Japanese Brazilian, although it would be more interested in the latter because it was developed in the region in conditions similar to those of his country.
To confirm the change in technology, a Government Agreement will be made and they hope that within four to five years the whole country can count on the digital television service and the analog blackout will be provided.
