Uruguay. A new solution for satellite distribution of pay-TV channels, combining a content distribution platform, low-cost video servers and playback and monitoring software, was unveiled this week.
The new system, called Inetsat, seeks to replace the current distribution of Pay TV, which generates each feed of a channel in a central location, which is then distributed in real time via satellite to a receiver / decoder (IRD) integrated into the headend of each operator.
This changes with Inetsat, because it generates each feed on a video server located in the headend of each operator. This feed is centrally controlled by the Pay-TV channel through Inetsat's distribution platform.
The content is then sent over the Internet but differs from streaming solutions in that it is only distributed once, to then be stored in the headend of each operator and wait to be broadcast on another occasion.
In addition, operators receive the channel feed from the video server 24 hours a day through an ASI, SDI or Ethernet, in the same way that today they receive the feed from the IRD.
On the control over the distribution of content, this system eliminates the risks associated with satellite problems and allows to improve the segmentation and location of the markets without incurring extra costs.
