Australia. Telecast Fiber Systems, a company known for its television broadcasting systems, announced that its CopperHead 3400 with camera-mounted fibre optic transmitters, played an important role in the 3D broadcast of two major sporting events in Australia: the Australian League football final and the National Rugby League final. For the coverage of both events 3ality Digital presented its new TS5 3D laptops equipped with the CopperHead 3400 for its client, a truck from OB Global Television. The CopperHead 3400 was mounted directly on the platform of two 3D cameras, transporting them without compressing the signal, in addition, it delivered the other signals necessary for production, such as HD/SDI return, and audio signals; as well as the power of the complete platform including motors, cameras and, in the viewfinder, a whole hybrid of standard SMPTE cables.
According to Matt Battaglia, Chief Engineer at 3ality Digital "with the CopperHead 3400 we can multiply many of the signals from our 3D platform with a two-signal hybrid cable. This is the breakthrough of telecasts, as it allows us to do more with less fiber and fewer cables since it is not easy to find a solution that can multiply several packets over a couple of signals."
