United States. A new broadcast system manufactured by Thomson Broadcast based on the ATSC A/153 standard was acquired by CBS-affiliated channel in Atlanta, WGCL-TV, which began operations in September 2010 as a significant upgrade to the network's existing digital broadcasting equipment.
The basic equipment to start operating through ATSC Mobile DTV included a program encoder, a multiplexer and an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) server, as well as a DTV transmission exciter compatible with other Thomson transmitter models.
"We needed a reliable way to stream video to laptops for our market and thanks to our positive experience with the MILlenium DCX transmitter for DTV, we were confident that we would get a good result with this product," explained Steve Flanagan, director of engineering at WGCL-TV, who added that thanks to this improvement with atSC Mobile DTV software, it was possible to start transmitting the mobile signal quickly.
