With the growing interest in stereoscopic 3D television, Grass Valley is leveraging its leadership in video compression and content processing technologies to offer transportation solutions for home contribution and delivery links. These dual-channel solutions ensure a perfect synchronization of time and images while preserving the 3D effect from origin to home.
Analysts agree that the transmission of sporting events will be one of the main drivers of the development of 3D television so there is an urgent need for reliable and high-quality contribution links between stadiums and broadcast centers. Grass Valley's new ViBE VA5004 encoders with their 3 GB/s input capacity accept left and right perspectives simultaneously and use JPEG 2000 for the best possible quality as well as the highest compression efficiency. By linking the compression engines, the processing is synchronized on both channels, and – of course – is guaranteed with the lowest compression latency.
To send stereoscopic television signals to the home, Grass Valley released a new version of the ViBE family of encoders. The ViBE EM3000, an MPEG-4 HD encoder that has been designed to encode the stereoscopic signal from both sides, a system preferred by some broadcasters to offer 3D television using standard set-top-boxes . Grass Valley works with Sensio Technologies to optimize H.264 algorithms ensuring that premium quality is maintained in the home receiver. The ViBE EM3000 has already been used by several broadcasters with test 3D signals.
