Toshiba presented at NAB 2010 a new model of its line of miniature cameras for specialized applications. The IK-R1H remote camera head is equipped with a 1/3" CMOS sensor, and weighs around 50 grams – obviously before putting a lens on it.
The camera can connect to two different models of CCUs, one with HD-SDI outputs with 720p/1080i output and one with DVI-I output that can handle 1080p signals. The connection between camera and control unit uses a single cable that can be up to 10 meters in length.
Although its origin in the industrial market is evident, the SDI version of this camera can be integrated without major difficulties in any conventional production system, which makes it an interesting alternative for the production of parts that require the use of hidden cameras, whose filmmakers are often forced to use "toy" cameras that in many cases do not offer images of superior quality to that of a webcam.
