Miranda Technologies partnered with Quest Research & Development Corp. to offer on-air graphics systems that allow broadcasters to display their viewers' comments, submitted via Twitter and other social media.
There are several local TV stations that now track viewers via Twitter and Facebook, and there has been considerable interest in making better use of these social networks, including some viewer comments on the air and encouraging more interaction.
Miranda's Vertigo XG graphics processor is ideal for this application because it can simultaneously produce SD, HD and video clips in 3gp files compatible with mobile devices.
QLive is Quest's graphical social media app. Other company applications provide interface data for emergency alert systems, school closures, election results, weather/temperature, traffic, latest news, sports and financial charts.
"Our first system was installed at a major New York station that uses technology to display tweets from viewers on the air during a live newscast. We believe it's the first system of its kind in the country, with viewer feedback fully integrated with the channel's corporate image and look," said Clinton Ash, president of Quest.
