Beginning November 1, Gordon H. Smith will serve as the new president of the National Association of Transmitters (NAB).
Smith served in the U.S. Senate from 1996 to 2008, where he was assigned to the Senate Commerce Committee, a group that oversees all broadcasting-related legislation. Smith also served on the Energy and Natural Resources Committees, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee. His role on the Trade Committee and as chair of the High Technology Task Force helped foster his interest in new media and technologies.
Born in Pendleton, Oregon, and attending Brigham Young University, he received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles, and practiced law in New Mexico and Arizona, before returning to Oregon to run the smith-owned company Frozen Foods.
