According to a press release issued by the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), almost all channels in that country are prepared for the transition from analog to digital television.
According to José Rafael Vargas, president of Indotel, "we have already defined many things, but logically it is a decision in which President Leonel Fernández has to intervene and he is actively participating in this process."
Vargas said that recently President Fernández led a workshop with European specialists who presented the president with the standard of the European Union and in which all the benefits of that standard were observed.
Soon another workshop will be held with the president, Indotel technicians, operators and the owners of all television channels to see the American standard. Later the same process will be carried out with the Brazilian standard.
"Here's going to happen what's happening on TV ten years ago. In all the countries of Latin America all the owners of television channels began to prepare, to buy equipment and now they only need to buy the transmitters, but almost all the channels are already prepared for the transition to digital television, " Vargas stressed.
Vargas also noted that users of the television service are prepared for the jump to digital television. "It is estimated that we have more than 300,000 HD (High Definition) televisions that have the North American system integrated, and this creates pressure on the country; however, what we are seeing is what is most convenient, if what is best is to develop a simple box adaptation that converts the signal from analog to digital, how much that box costs, "said the president of Indotel.
