This year, IBC2008 confirmed that it is a big event. record-breaking dimensions in terms of number of visitors, registrations and exhibitors.
IBCRegistered a record 77,041 registrations, 49,250 visitors from 130 countries and 1,400 exhibitors
During the event a ceremony of awards and an extensive programme of thematic conferences, which included sessions open to the general public on IPTV, mobile television and digital signage.
This year the main conference was presented by the winner of the International Award for Excellence 2007, Leonardo Chiariglione, who examined strengths and weaknesses demonstrated by broadcasters in this age of technology universally available.
The IBC Awards Ceremony awarded projects as diverse as content distribution through of multiple platforms, a system to save energy in the studies and a system to achieve 16 times the resolution of HD on the screens.
This year's International Award for Excellence went to Jeffrey Katzenverg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation SKG, several times nominated for an Oscar and winner of multiple awards. The opportunity was taken to perform live, from Los Ángeles, the first high 3D transatlantic telecast definition and seen by the audience gathered on the Big Screen IBC Auditorium, at the RAI, Amsterdam. From Los Angeles, Katzenberg commented on his vision on film production at a time when there are several distribution channels, as well as on the impact of 3D technology on theaters, at home and on other platforms.
This year, the Special Award went to the first broadcast international content in Super Hi-Vision, awarded to the alliance formed by BBC, RAI, EBU and NHK.
