Harmonic Inc announced that SKY Brasil Serviços Ltda, the country's largest home video (DTH) service provider, launched its new high-definition television service based on MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) digital video delivery solutions.
The system works with DiviCom Electra 7000 encoders, ProStream 1000 processing platforms with DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexer and an NMX Digital Service Manager.
According to Luis Otavio Marchezetti, Director of Engineering at SKY Brazil, "Harmonic's statistical encoding and multiplexing solutions offer higher bandwidth and video quality on a platform with low power consumption requirements. With these products we have been able to put in place an infrastructure that will support our expansion for the future."
With the addition of HD channels, SKY Brasil made it a priority to select a single vendor that could offer a complete solution for compression, statistical multiplexing and network management needs.
