With the commitment to reduce carbon emissions that generates the production of the television series 24, executives Fox announced preventive measures such as the replacement of the incandescent lights by fluorescents, reducing consumption of energy, the use of hybrid vehicles and digitalization of much of the printed material.
The decision was made after analyzing the amount of gases and toxic waste generated by the crash scenes or explosions and compare these results with studies on the global warming.
Specifically, the changes include the purchase of 26 vehicles powered by diesel and five generators that will start to work with 5% biodiesel and will increase this proportion.
In addition to the measures described, the production of 24 will pay to farms that originate wind energy in India so that produce enough clean energy to offset the 1,291 tons of carbon dioxide estimated to be generated by the series.
Fox will have to accelerate all efforts in this regard since the goal is that in 2010 all its shows and productions will be carbon neutral.
This is not the first chain to take such measures. In November 2008 NBC Universal migrated three of its programs towards this production scheme including Saturday Night Live using alternative fuels and increasing the recycling. Warner Brothers and Disney have also performed some efforts in this regard.
