Anton/Bauer has in the final stage of development a battery charging system for cameras that takes advantage of sunlight. It is a blanket of cells capable of collecting the energy necessary for a full charge of a battery as fast as that of a traditional charger connected to an electrical source. Needless to say, this is an indispensable accessory for cameramen working in remote locations – correspondents, documentalists, social researchers, etc. – who need to be sure to find where to refuel. The solar charger will also be offered by Anton/Bauer as an environmentally friendly product, which can still be used in sites equipped with electrical energy.
The manufacturer's Dionic 160 battery will charge in four hours, in good conditions of available sunlight; the Dionic 90 will do it in three and a half hours, and the HyTron 120 in three hours. Meanwhile, the battery of the Trimpac Logic series will reach its peak charge in just one hour. The firm will have the product commercially available by the end of this year.
