Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, delivered a balance of its work with the strengthening of broadcasting as an essential service for the integration, information and development of the country.
As of January 2026, Peru has 6,135 authorized radio stations, which shows the consolidation of a decentralized communication infrastructure with a broad territorial reach. The regions with the highest number of stations are Cusco (546), Cajamarca (491), Puno (459), Ancash (406) and Piura (401), while Madre de Dios registers a strategic growth of 2.20%.
"Radio is a means of communication with a valuable past and current relevance. In our country it continues to be one of the most used and most accessible means of transport that makes us feel accompanied, even in more remote areas," said the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera.
Currently, the stations fulfill commercial, educational and community purposes, reflecting the plurality and diversity of the Peruvian radio ecosystem.
According to the study by the Radio and Television Advisory Council (CONCORTV), carried out between June and August 2025, 66% of the population consumes radio, with music programs, newscasts, sports, interviews and health and political orientation spaces being the most listened to.
As part of its leading role, the MTC promotes the orderly development of the sector through the granting and renewal of authorizations, as well as the supervision of the proper use of the radio spectrum.
At the end of 2025, 139 precautionary measures were executed and 206 telecommunications equipment were seized from stations operating illegally. These actions were mainly concentrated in Lima, La Libertad, Junín and Cajamarca.
