Mexico. On January 21 and 23 in Mexico City, Sony Professional Solutions held an exclusive experience focused on Virtual Production (ICVFX) and live production flows, aimed at film, television and content creation professionals.
The meeting was held in Forum 4 of Azteca Estudios and brought together directors, cinematographers, producers, technical teams and specialists from the audiovisual industry.
During both days, Sony showed in a practical way how the combination of LED volumes, digital cinema cameras, advanced camera tracking systems, pre-production tools and real-time workflows is transforming the way audiovisual productions are planned and executed. Attendees were able to learn how these technologies allow creative and technical decisions to be made from the early stages of the project, under the approach known as "Fix it in Pre", optimizing time, resources and final results.
"In virtual production, we have already crossed the point of no return. This technology is more cost-effective, allows creativity to be unleashed without being tied to the constraints of a physical location, and makes it possible to produce more in less time to respond to an ever-increasing demand for content," said Gonzalo Gamio, Product Manager & Sales Support Engineer at Sony Professional Solutions.
One of the centerpieces of the experience was the demonstration of Sony's Verona Crystal LED volume, designed specifically for high-end Virtual Production. Verona was noted for its ability to deliver superior levels of contrast, colour reproduction and black depth, allowing more realistic images to be captured directly in-camera and significantly reducing the need for post-production corrections.
Within the technological ecosystem presented, Sony placed special emphasis on Ocellus, its camera tracking system for Virtual Production and Live Production. Ocellus is distinguished by not requiring physical markers in the environment, as it integrates a sensor with five cameras that allow the position and movement of the camera to be tracked with high precision in real time.
This technology is particularly valuable for both film productions and live production environments, as it allows for cleaner and more flexible integration between the physical camera and the virtual environment. In film, Ocellus facilitates more natural and complex camera movements without interfering with set design, while in live productions it provides stability, speed of set-up and operational reliability, key elements for multi-camera broadcasts and real-time events.
The experience was complemented by demonstrations of Sony's Virtual Production Tool Set, which allows digital cinema cameras to be virtualized within Unreal Engine environments before filming, as well as the Color Calibration tool, aimed at ensuring consistency between the image visualized on set and the material generated during recording, significantly reducing calibration times.
The event was attended by prominent references of Mexican cinematography, such as Daniel Blanco AMC and Serguei Saldívar AMC, who shared their experience in the use of Virtual Production from a creative and practical perspective, contributing their vision on how these technologies expand narrative possibilities and optimize filming processes.
The sessions were structured to address different industry profiles. The first day was mainly focused on Virtual Production for film and film content, while the second delved into the convergence between Virtual Production and multi-camera live production, showing real-time workflows applicable to broadcast, events and live content.
With this meeting, Sony reaffirmed its commitment to the Mexican audiovisual industry, positioning itself as a provider capable of offering a comprehensive ecosystem that ranges from capture with digital cinema cameras to the display of images in LED volumes, tracking systems and integration with software tools, facilitating more efficient workflows. creative and reliable for content creators.
