Colombia. YouTube announced the expansion of the YouTube Premium Lite pilot program for users in Colombia, offering a new, cheaper way to enjoy most videos on YouTube without ads for $12,500 COP (about US$3) per month.
The rollout has begun and full availability is expected throughout the country in the coming weeks. "This expansion comes as we continue to innovate our subscription offerings, as part of the success of YouTube Music and Premium, which recently surpassed 125 million subscribers globally," the company said.
YouTube Premium Lite is designed for viewers who are primarily looking for an ad-free experience while consuming content from gaming, comedy, cooking, learning, and more. The new membership works on all devices, including phone, laptop and TV.
It's important to note that while Premium Lite offers ad-free viewing for most videos, ads can still appear on music content and Shorts, and when users search or browse. For music lovers looking for ad-free music on YouTube and YouTube Music, as well as offline downloads and background playback, the existing YouTube Premium plan is recommended.
"The introduction of Premium Lite in Colombia demonstrates YouTube's commitment to offering flexible options that adapt to the diverse preferences of viewers, allowing users to enjoy their favorite content from a wide catalog of creators and genres with fewer interruptions. This expansion also continues to create additional revenue opportunities for creators and partners. We will continue to expand our YouTube Premium Lite pilot programs to more countries and introduce more ways for users to get the most out of their subscriptions this year," the company concluded.
