Peru. With the aim of strengthening communication, technical learning and collaboration in emergency situations, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) informed citizens about the procedure to obtain the authorization to operate as an amateur radio operator in the country.
Radio amateurs are authorized persons who use specific bands of the radio spectrum to transmit and receive radio signals, establishing contact with colleagues around the world through specialized equipment. Their work is essential in contexts where conventional networks stop working, such as natural disasters or other emergencies. This activity is carried out on a voluntary and non-profit basis.
In Peru there are three categories of radio amateurs. The "Novice" category is aimed at those who are new to this activity. The "Intermediate" category corresponds to operators with more experience, who have access to a wider number of frequency bands. Finally, the "Superior" category is reserved for those who have reached an advanced level and can operate in all the bands assigned for the amateur radio service.
Authorization for the "Novice" category is granted free of charge and is valid for five years. To obtain it, the interested person must submit an application to the General Directorate of Telecommunications Authorizations (DGAT) of the MTC.
It is necessary to complete and sign the form available by clicking here. You must also attach a simple copy of the certificate attesting to the passing of the theoretical-practical exam, issued by an amateur radio association. If this certificate is not available, the MTC will notify the applicant of the date on which the exam must be taken.
The owner or legal representative must fill out and sign the technical information form of the equipment and facilities to be operated. You can also submit a simple copy of additional documentation related to the technical information of the equipment and facilities to be operated.
For those who wish to advance to the "Intermediate" category, the procedure is carried out through the DGAT-011 procedure, and for those who aspire to the "Superior" category, they must follow the DGAT-012 procedure. Each one contemplates specific requirements that must be met by applicants.
The documentation can be submitted virtually, through the MTC's Digital TUPA, or in person at the parts table of the headquarters located at Jiron Zorritos 1203, Lima, as well as at the parts tables of the Territorial Decentralized Centers (CDT) in various regions of the country.
