Colombia. The call for applications for the Audiovisual Fund for Racial Equity (ERA), led by Manos Visibles with the support of Luminate and Ford Foundation, is open until April 27.
This initiative, in its first version, is aimed at Colombian audiovisual production companies with feature films by Afro-Colombian and indigenous directors and screenwriters. The call accepts Colombian productions or co-productions led by companies with at least 60% Afro or indigenous ownership, and with ethnic representation in roles of direction, script, cast and technical and artistic team. The duration of the projects must be at least 80 minutes for fiction feature films and 52 minutes for documentaries.
The fund supports projects in the filming, post-production or launch stages, giving priority to those stories that, in addition to challenging the paradigms of Colombian cinema, have the potential to connect with both local and international audiences. Each company can apply for up to two projects.
"This Fund inaugurates a new era in Colombian cinema, where racial equity is a non-negotiable principle. We want to promote stories that resonate globally, that connect with diverse audiences and that build a legacy of quality, awareness and impact," said Paula Moreno, president of Manos Visibles.
Manos Visibles has been an engine of transformation in the Colombian audiovisual sector, strengthening production companies in Tumaco, Quibdó and Santa Marta. She has accompanied more than 300 Afro and indigenous leaders and filmmakers in training processes in master's degrees and transnational schools, with alliances in countries such as Brazil. All this while building strategic alliances with key institutions in the industry, including the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, Proimágenes Colombia, the Bogotá Audiovisual Market - BAM, and several more.
