CNTV awarded resources for free-to-air TV production

Chile. A total of 17 audiovisual projects were selected in the version of the CNTV Fund 2023, which on this occasion awarded more than four billion Chilean pesos, (about US $ 4.4 million) to finance quality programs on open television.

For the 2023 edition of this public competition, 152 projects were submitted in eight lines, with four projects of regional origin, two historical series, two non-fiction programs and the same number of fiction programs, two productions for preschool audiences from 3 to 6 years old, and two children's projects for children from 7 to 12 years old, being finally financed. two new seasons and two of local origin or community character.

"The CNTV Fund is a public policy that has been financing quality content for more than 30 years that has been reflected in open television for the benefit of audiences. Today we have an audiovisual heritage with more than 400 national productions that speak of our history, our memory and our regions, "said the president of the CNTV, Mauricio Muñoz.

Projects 2023
"Magnicidio" is one of the projects that obtained funding in the line of Historical Series or Historical Documentaries. The series presented by Coquimbo Films, under the direction of Rodrigo Susarte Jiménez, tells the fictional story of the investigation into the death of former Chilean President Eduardo Frei Montalva. He was awarded $542,504,950. Among the grounds given by some counselors to support this series, given the recent ruling of the Supreme Court that acquitted all those who were accused, at the time, of having murdered the former president, it is pointed out that the "ruling that establishes a procedural verdict of acquittal for lack of evidence to the accused in the case on the death of President Frei does not prevent the realization of this project, for this antecedent will be part of the story" of the work.

The minutes of the Council indicate, in relation to the votes in favor of this project, that it "must be of historical fiction, modifying the title, the names of the characters and the other components in the sense indicated by the letter sent to this Council by the winning producer, so that it fully and fully respects the ruling of the Supreme Court. "

The other production benefited in the line of Historical Series is "Ancestras", a documentary series that tells the history of women and the feminist movement in Chile, from independence to obtaining universal female suffrage, focusing mainly on the history of the Movement for the Emancipation of Women of Chile -MEMCH. Presented by La Alborada Films under the direction of Eva Vera Cuadra. He was awarded $244,249,837

In the line of Fiction was awarded the fund the series "Kalkultún", fiction that is located in Chiloé in 1879 when the murder of a well-known "sorcerer" that triggers an unprecedented judicial process in Chile, where a mysterious association of sorcerers called "La recta provincia" is involved. Presented by Olguin Films under the direction of Jorge Olguín. He was awarded $537,556,238 from the CNTV Fund.

"Mamá Gol" tells the story of a nurse who due to an accident of her husband must take charge of his football team and train the players to continue receiving the salary of coach facing the machismo that surrounds her challenging the mafia that owns the club. Presented by Más Cine y TV EIRL under the direction of Claudio del Valle. Received $507,218,399 from the CNTV Fund

In the line of Non-Fiction, there were two projects that were awarded CNTV Funds for its realization. Presented by Altirosapiens and under the direction of Guillermo Helo, "Extraordinarias" is a documentary series that addresses the history of different women with disabilities in Latin America, who despite the double bias that falls on them, due to gender and their own disability, have managed to make their way in life, achieving their goals, dreams and life projects. He received $366,941,788 from the CNTV Fund. The second project benefited in this line is the Documentary Series "La Cima" (The Summit), which closely follows the history of the Rubin Observatory, from its beginnings to the arrival of the largest camera in the world in 2024. The project is co-produced internationally by Inigo Films, a Canadian production company founded by Alison Rose, its director, who has directed and produced documentaries on astronomy and technology. The CNTV Fund was awarded $211,113,376.

In the line of regional origin, three productions were recognized: the documentary series "Arrau" of Reinos Spa of the Valparaíso region, which explores the relationship of the human being with music, through the life of the Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau. It was awarded $286,149,536. "Asphalt Farmers" from the Valparaíso region, is an international documentary television series, which takes urban agriculture as its axis and portrays diverse experiences in six Latin American cities (Havana, Mexico City, Bogotá, El Alto, Rio de Janeiro and Valparaíso) delving into topics such as sustainable urban design, the impact of climate change on cities, the origin of food, the transplantation of wisdom from the countryside to the city or the contradictions of globalization. He received $201,239,384 for its realization. "Geopoética" is a series that explores four stories of universal literature set or connected with different territories of Chile, rescuing their poetic, social and historical value. These books are: Moby Dick, La Araucana, Memories of the Past and Robinson Crusoe. It comes from the Araucanía region. Awarded $231,459,715

In the lines aimed at children, two projects were benefited in the Children's line from 3 to 6 years old, and two in the Children's line from 7 to 12 years old.

From 3 to 6 years, the projects were recognized "Sissi and Caesar", presented by Three Thirds is an animated series in Stop Motion tells the adventures of two penguins who travel the planet with an important mission: to recover the colors of nature turned into grays, affected by the "chromatic crisis". This duo rescues the importance of teamwork, community life, respect for the environment. He received $260,830,279 from the Fund. The other preschool project is "Kima&Amik" tells the stories of two cousins, one who lives in the city and the other in the countryside. And from 7 to 12 years, CNTV funds, the series "Quique H detective" and "Los Viajeros Invisibles" were awarded. The first based on the saga of novels by the writer Sergio Gómez belonging to the genre of the children's and youth police novel and considered as complementary reading in schools and colleges in Chile. He received $331,821,841 from the CNTV Fund. "Los Viajeros invisibles", directed by Rubén Miranda, is an animated series that narrates the journey of a group of elves and elves who, by accident, end up as involuntary passengers on a ship of European immigrants that travels to colonize southern Chile in the nineteenth century. $250,558,127 was awarded to the CNTV Fund

In the line of local and local interest of a community nature, the projects benefited are 2: "Floating in La Talagante" and "Root, manual of knowledge".
