Colombia reached 6.3 million Pay-TV subscribers

crc

Colombia. The CRC published a new document with relevant data at the end of 2022 corresponding to the subscription television service in Colombia, such as: service income, television penetration in Colombian households, the technology used and its distribution by strata and segments.

According to the advanced analysis, subscribers of the subscription television service reached 6.3 million at the end of 2022, with an increase of 2.15% compared to 2021, likewise the revenues associated with the service grew 0.4% over the previous year, reaching $ 3.4 billion pesos in 2022.

According to the report, the penetration rate of this service was 36.3 per 100 households, which represented a reduction of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous year, this taking into account that households grew at a higher rate than TV subscribers. The most used technology in the subscription TV service was HFC Digital with a 62.45% share, equivalent to 3.94 million subscribers accessing the service.

At the regional level, Bogotá, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, Cundinamarca and Santander account for 65% of the total subscribers to the subscription TV service as of December 2022. It is also observed that together Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla cover 43.44% of the total subscribers in the country. Among this group of cities, Medellín had, as of December 2022, the highest penetration rate with 65.3 subscribers per 100 households, followed by Barranquilla with 57.9, Cali with 53.5 and Bogotá D.C. with 51.0.

"The published document contains analyses that allow us to know in detail the trends of the subscription television market, which represents for the entity a reference input for future decision-making for the benefit of users. From the CRC we will continue to make available to our value groups relevant and updated data on the behavior of communications services in the country." Nicolás Silva Cortés, Commissioner and Executive Director of the CRC, concluded.
