Latin America. Barbara Spicek took over as the new CEO of manufacturer GatesAir. She has nearly three decades of experience in business leadership, with executive roles at Fortune 500 companies such as Brocade Communications and Veritas Technologies. For the past three years she served as an executive at Vizrt Group.
Spicek's reputation as a strategic and results-oriented business leader for IP-based technologies caught the attention of NewTek's owners, Vizrt Group. In 2020, she accepted the role of President and General Manager of NewTek at the helm of the company's live production business.
Spicek will now apply his ability to define the direction and success of the company at GatesAir, where he sees an opportunity to grow the company's international presence, as well as expand product and solution offerings into exciting new areas. That includes carrying forward the brand's legacy of industry-leading radio and television broadcasting, while expanding the company's business opportunities.
"GatesAir's longevity speaks for itself and we will continue to innovate for the global over-the-air streaming market," Spicek said. "Commercial opportunities for digital radio, FM and TV systems continue to grow around the world, and GatesAir's Intraplex networking business has flourished as broadcasters accelerate their IP transitions. I see clear opportunities for GatesAir to bring new cloud-based and software-based solutions to market, both within its product portfolio and in collaboration with Thomson Broadcast and an expanded ecosystem. That adds to a phenomenal growth opportunity for GatesAir, driven through a strong business foundation anchored by Thomson's supportive ownership."
Bruce Swail, CEO since 2017, is retiring from GatesAir after several years of sustained performance, most notably in optimizing the company's position in the FCC Spectrum Repack program.
