Peru. With the aim of continuing the strategy against radio piracy, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) carried out an operation in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, province of Lima, where it operated an auxiliary communications link illegally, known as Radio La Poderosa, on the frequency 242,500 MHz.
With the presence of representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Police of Peru, telecommunications equipment from the aforementioned station, located on the top of Cerro San Jerónimo, was seized. This illegal company used an unauthorized communications auxiliary link.
"These criminal behaviors generate losses to the State because taxes are evaded, copyright is violated and payment for the use of the radio spectrum is omitted. In addition, these pirate signals degrade other transmissions that do meet the requirements and have an authorization provided by the MTC, "said the general director of Communications Inspections and Sanctions, Miguel Ontiveros.
Thus, so far this year, the General Directorate of Communications Inspections and Sanctions carried out 42 precautionary measures at the national level against the unauthorized use of the radio spectrum, which allowed the seizure of 226 telecommunications equipment used outside the law.
In Lima alone, 23 operations were carried out on illegal stations; in San Martín there were eight; in La Libertad, seven; two in the Ica region; one in Callao and one in Lambayeque.
"We have proposed for this year to carry out unannounced operations in different areas of the country. To this end, the Directorate of Oversight and Sanctions is leading a multisectoral work with the support of the PNP, the Public Ministry and other institutions," said Ontiveros.
