North America. SoKrispyMedia, a company that produces and creates visual effects for action content, finished its latest video, in which it used the Blackmagic Cloud solution and the DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 editing program, both services of Blackmagic Design.
The production company SoKrispyMedia is recognized for films such as 'Chalk Warfare', and its work with the recreation of the "Squid Game" with the media MrBeast. This company is renowned for the use of technology and innovation, whose main purpose is to "work to create engaging content that is worth watching."
Now, his most recent project is based on the video game Dying Light 2 Stay Human. To achieve this, they had to combine the production of live action images with visual effects and risk scenes, in a span of only six weeks.
Sam Wickert, director and visual effects designer, shot most of the project with a Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 digital cinematic camera. In post-production he used DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 for importing, editing and color correction of the images.
Wickert commented: "Honestly, we are grateful to have made the project entirely on a single platform, particularly since having to finish a 12-minute short film in six weeks is a very committed task. By taking into consideration all stages of post-production, including shot selection, editing, audio, visual effects and color grading, there's not much time left to move from one program to another."
Micah Malinics, producer of SoKrispyMedia, said: "We looked forward to working with Blackmagic Cloud and we took great advantage of this platform in this project. The dates for post-production were very tight, because we were traveling, in meetings and, usually, working on the fly. Since we edited this film ourselves, we needed a solution that would allow us to access the project seamlessly, even when we weren't in our jobs."
Wickert noted that Blackmagic Cloud allowed them to work from different computers and locations, without the need to migrate files. "This was wonderful, given that we had a very tight deadline to edit the content, and it wasn't something we could do before with ease. For example, it was quite tedious to manage several project files on different computer equipment, since we had to switch several times between the devices in the same day. Thanks to Blackmagic Cloud, we didn't have to waste time on this."
It can be concluded that, in SoKrispyMedia, they are clear that this will not be the last production in which they will rely on Blackmagic Cloud. Malinics was emphatic that "as we begin to increasingly adopt a dynamic of remote work in our productions, it will be fantastic to be able to work in the cloud and with multi-user interfaces with greater ease and efficiency. While we will always need to have artists and contractors in person, this work dynamic simplifies the post-production experience, whether we are all in the studio, working remotely or in a hybrid way."
Wickert concluded by commenting: "We embrace cutting-edge technology in many of our work and are very excited about the way Blackmagic Design is implementing these new features. The dynamics of working in the cloud, the AI-assisted tools of DaVinci Resolve Studio 18 and the use of advanced equipment, really improve the way we work and we look forward to continuing to explore the new version of the program and Blackmagic Cloud this year."
