The Spanish company VSN will present in September new developments and functionalities for its media, traffic and planning management systems and news in remote editing for production and news. All developments are focused on facilitating the daily operations of broadcast and media professionals and improving their productivity in remote work environments and content planning for non-linear channels.
"This 2020 is undoubtedly being a completely different year for the industry. Therefore, aspects such as 100% web solutions, flexible infrastructures and technologies or recurring costs have become a top priority for many businesses, "says Patricia Corral, Marketing Director of VSN. "On this occasion, we present novelties that are focused on having a positive impact on the productivity of users. We want them to be able to have the same effectiveness working in a relocated way and remotely as in their own company facilities. We also want them to gain speed when it comes to creating, delivering and distributing their content. We seek, basically, to do more with less dependence on multiple systems or large technological infrastructures."
New control and operation panels in VSNExplorer
The latest version of VSNExplorer has a new functionality so that users can create dashboards or panels from which to operate all the tools and functionalities of the system centrally.
Each user will be able to create their own control and operation panels from the top menu of VSNExplorer and customize them in a simple way, combining different widgets to their liking that allow them to use and operate all the tools and functions of the VSNExplorer system from the panel itself and without having to open each of them.
"Thanks to this new functionality, a user can from the same panel, for example, have a view of certain forms segmented by date, perform a specific advanced search, see a list of assets pending review, distribute those assets or make a quick edit to the cut of a video," says Toni Vilalta, Product Manager of VSN. "In practice, this new tool improves the speed of users in their daily operations, by allowing them to perform all the actions of VSNExplorer (cataloging assets, task management, asset search, review and validation, content distribution, etc.) from a single work panel."
Non-linear programming and new SaaS contracting options in VSNCrea
The VSNCrea traffic and planning system presents its content programming module for non-linear channels that allows it to integrate with any non-linear environment with ease (Vod, OTT, Web TV, etc.) thanks to its open architecture based on webhooks. In essence, the new module allows you to plan the publication and depublishing of the content catalog for one or more non-linear media and perform block schedules in a totally personalized way for each channel. It also includes new integrations with video distribution and broadcast services, such as Vimeo or Youtube, which will continue to expand over the coming months.
At the business level, VSNCrea also now allows you to contract the system under SaaS service mode, installed in public, private or VSN's own cloud services of the user's choice. This contracting model offers, among other advantages, unlimited access to the system from any location, a reduction in costs in its contracting with recurring payments, a more flexible infrastructure capable of adapting to the changing workloads of the channels, and a practically immediate start-up of the system, depending on the requirements of the client and the choice of the cloud service that best suits their needs.
New workflows in news production and remote editing
Among the main novelties included in vsN's news production or Media Stories solution, its support of growing files for remote work environments stands out. This development allows users to visualize the low resolution of a recording and start editing and working with it instantly, while it is being ingested into the system. That is, they can simultaneously select video fragments of their interest, add them to the editing timeline, make quick video edits and consolidate the final piece in low resolution for sending to FTP or any destination for broadcast or publication.
In addition, in order to further streamline the remote editing process, new controls have also been introduced in the VSNExplorer player to allow more accurate and selective video navigation. Some of these new features include options such as zoom, vúmetro and new keyboard shortcuts.
"We believe that these developments mark a before and after in our news production solution," says Vilalta. "By combining new developments for remote editing with systems such as VSN NewsConnect and its multi-studio feature, we are able to provide users with maximum flexibility, allowing them to perform all news production tasks from a single workspace – allowing them to be more efficient and save time. In addition, they can also control and distribute content to multiple studios in different locations, even if the systems used in these are different from each other.
Finally, all these new features and developments can be seen in action in the second edition of the 100% digital event VSN Wired, which will take place between September 14 and 25 and which, as in its successful initial edition, will have public demos -offered at various times to facilitate its availability-, download of informative material, and the possibility of requesting meetings and private demos at the moment with the sales team and demo artists, among others.
