Digital Stations

The digital age first came to sound work and it is there where more evolution has been achieved for the recording, editing and assembly of professional audio for audiovisual production.

The first option offered by this house is Vegas Audio 2.0, an application developed for Windows 98 and NT platforms, which forms a multichannel recording and editing system capable of turning the personal computer into a sound production studio. It combines a multi-track recorder, an audio editor, a mixer and a media encoder in a single application that allows you to edit audio events visually between tracks or on the same track with great precision. Although it is an application intended for multichannel music production, it allows to do the work of synchronizing with a video track. It has some audio effects that can be applied in real time and listen to the results instantly. Thanks to the multiple I/O configurations it is possible to assign different inputs to different tracks at the time of recording, a tool that allows professional recording for live or studio productions. It also includes authoring tools for the Internet.

Another alternative is the professional sound audio editor Sound Forge that allows you to record, process and edit mono or stereo audio files and synchronize them with video streams quickly and easily. It is a very appropriate application for multimedia or Internet projects. Together with Sound Forge XP they offer support for audio and video stream productions for the Web. You can operate with WAV or AVI files for RealNetworks RealSystem G2 or Microsoft Windows Media Technologies 4.1 formats.

Plug-in

A Sonic Foundry plug-in application is Acustic Mirror DirectX which introduces the acoustic properties of real environments and sound alteration devices into existing recordings. Acoustic Mirror can simulate responses ranging from large concert halls to the classic sound of old tube microphones.

This company has devoted great efforts to measuring the acoustic qualities of many different environments in order to collect, analyze and classify these impulse responses. The result is a rich library of extremely high quality signals, with unparalleled stereophonic reproduction and realism. This plug-in also allows you to collect and save your own acoustic signals. Whether the job requires giving the sound a particular atmosphere or creating a unique sound effect, this application can offer the necessary tools to achieve high-quality results.

Audio Restoration

DirectX Audio is an additional application that works as a plug-in as well, developed for noise reduction and consists of a collection of four tools that are activated in the same way. The Noise Reduction tool analyzes and then removes background noises such as tape whistles, electric buzzing and machinery vibration. Unlike common filters, this application cleans the audio without removing any of the original materials, storing the information about frequency and amplitude of the background noises in the recording to determine the frequencies that should be removed.

The Click and Crackle Removal tool detects noises that often exist in old recordings, or that result from faulty editing or cutting, and automatically replaces them to minimize your listening. It also offers improved isolation and elimination of noises that occur in rapid succession.

Moreover, the Vinyl Restore tool is used to restore the audio quality of your vinyl collection (or acetate recordings). In a single operation, this tool removes noise from dirt and scrapes on the surface of an acetate, and then removes broadband surface noise from the old recording.

Finally, those unique recordings that were lost can be recovered with the Option of Restore Cut Peaks. This plug-in restores the cut signals and reduces the resulting sharp distortion. The tool rounds the tips of the cut peaks and applies a peak limitation to the area immediately adjacent to the audio cut.

This series of specialized software options for sound recording and editing work offer a wide range of applications for music production, the work of soundtracks for video and film, and all the new perspectives that open up in new multimedia and Internet media.
