Increased budget for public channels in Colombia

mintic

Colombia. 52 years ago, on February 9, 1970, Channel 11, today known as Señal Colombia, went on the air with the clear objective of training a large sector of the population through cultural and educational content.

In 1995 this channel became what we know today as Señal Colombia and since then, it has managed to position itself as a benchmark at the Latin American level for the quality of its audiovisual content, generating a high degree of identity on the part of Colombians.

During these years of broadcasts, the programs and specials of this channel have received countless awards nationally and internationally. In addition to becoming a hotbed of great producers, writers and directors, who thanks to the support of the National Government have been able to materialize their projects through this screen.

"Señal Colombia has become an educational and cultural experience for Colombians. It invites us to question our collective imaginaries, to rethink ourselves as a society and to find new ways to build a better country. We are proud of its vocation as the main alternative channel of Colombian culture and education," said Carmen Ligia Valderrama Rojas, Minister of Information and Communications Technologies.

The Government of President Iván Duque has recognized the value and work of public television in building a democratic society with more equity. To this end, the budget of these channels (national and regional) has increased progressively year after year. In 2019, $267.48 billion (about US$68.3 million) was delivered; in 2020$291.5 billion (about US$74.4 million); and in 2021 about $318.9 billion (about US$81.4 million).

In 2020, faced with the challenge of the pandemic, Señal Colombia became a key ally to bring educational content to the entire national territory. RTVC, together with MinTIC and the Ministry of Education, created nine projects that combined education and entertainment, among these '3, 2, 1 Edu-action', 'Magical Territory', 'Profe en tu casa' and 'Bien Dateado'.
