Latin America. The Brecha Cero portal of 5G Americas makes available to the public its new section of radio spectrum statistics assigned for mobile services in Latin America, which includes the amount of spectrum in mega Hertz (MHz) by country and by frequency band.
The section is now available on the portal and the data presented by 5G Americas was obtained from public information from national regulators and telecommunications network operators.
The spectrum statistics section presents four indicators:
- Radio spectrum allocated by country for mobile services in IMT bands under 6 GHz. This indicator includes a figure from the regional average (currently 415.2 MHz).
- Spectrum allocated by country for mobile services in "low bands" (IMT bands under 1 GHz). This indicator breaks down the amount of spectrum per band for each country.
- Spectrum allocated by country for mobile services in "medium bands" (IMT bands between 1 GHz and 6 GHz). This indicator breaks down the amount of spectrum per band for each country.
- Spectrum allocated by country for mobile services in "high bands" (IMT bands over 6 GHz). This indicator breaks down the amount of spectrum per band for each country.
Spectrum figures exclude capacity temporarily allocated for testing or experimental use, licensed capacity in IMT (international mobile telecommunications) bands but without authorization for mobile services, and spectrum granted on a provisional basis (for example, for temporary use as measures in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic).
The information of the portal is updated as of October 26, 2021 and will be updated monthly, so the figures are subject to variations due to changes in the allocation of the resource by country and changes in the sources of information from which the data for the portal is obtained.
The resource is offered for information purposes and to monitor the evolution of the use of IMT bands in a context of transition towards 5G networks that will require spectrum bands in low, medium and high frequencies. The portal also includes a section on spectrum terminology used in the ITU Radio Regulations and the list of spectrum allocation mechanisms.
