Netflix launches portal with its weekly top 10

netfliex top 10

Latin America. Netflix launched Netflix's Top 10, a new website with worldwide and country lists of the platform's most popular titles, which will be updated weekly.

The new weekly lists of Netflix's 10 most popular will be released every Tuesday, and are calculated from the number of hours of viewing original and non-original titles between Monday and Sunday of the previous week.

"We have divided the lists in this way: World Top 10 for movies (English), TV (English), movies (non-English) and TV (non-English), as well as the rankings of more than 90 countries. The website is currently available in English and Spanish, with more languages planned for next year," said Pablo Pérez De Rosso, vice president of Strategy, Content Planning and Analysis at Netflix.

These weekly lists are added to the daily rows of the 10 most popular in each country that premiered last year, and that from now on will also be determined from the hours of viewing.

"Because we also know that fans love to keep track of our most popular movies and series of all time, we'll be updating the global charts — which we first published last month — when new titles become mega-hits. To compile these lists, we count the total number of hours of viewing each title during its first 28 days on Netflix," he added.

To bring greater transparency to the lists to be published, Netflix has selected EY — an independent auditing firm — to review the new metrics and publish its report in 2022.

"Finding the best way to measure success in the world of streaming is difficult, and there is no perfect metric. Traditional data, such as box office or audience percentage (designed to help advertisers understand success on traditional TV) is not relevant to most streaming companies, netflix included. After examining different options, we believe that engagement measured in viewing hours is a clear indicator of both a title's popularity and overall subscriber satisfaction, an important factor for retention in subscription services. In addition, viewing hours replicate the way other companies measure popularity, include repeated viewings (a very clear sign of subscriber liking) and can be compared with consistency between companies."
