Latin America. 5G Americas released a new report called "5G Vertical Use Cases," which delves into the benefits, opportunities and requirements for enterprise 5G adoption.
Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas, stated, "5G architecture enables innovation. In 2021, as the world approaches 200 5G networks and millions of connected 5G devices, entities are thinking a lot about what the result will be the highest data rates, the lowest latency and the precise management of sensors and connected devices in their businesses and for them."
"5G Vertical Use Cases" is the second report prepared by 5G Americas this year linked to 5G in the company, and accompanies the one published in August 2021, "Private and Enterprise Networks". While the previous 5G Americas report focused on network operating models and architectures, as well as tools for deploying enterprise private networks, "5G Vertical Use Cases" explains the specific benefits and requirements for certain verticals.
The new white paper 5G Vertical Use Cases identifies how 5G offers numerous innovations that set it apart greatly from 4G LTE. These innovations include increased speed and optimized connectivity across new spectrum, dedicated resource management with network slicing, highly reliable communication for latencies below 10 milliseconds, improved security, a distributed packet core that propagates core network functions to the edge of the network, and creation and deployment of flexible services with Service-Based Architecture (SBA, for the acronym in English).
In addition, the report clarifies the different factors that all decision-makers must consider, regardless of the industry in which they work, among which are the availability of epectro, the intended use for spectrum or "spectral determinism", the coverage area in corporate buildings, cybersecurity needs, the availability of connectivity and reliability requirements, the issues of data sovereignty, ease of use, and legal and functional liability, as well as ownership of network assets.
"5G Vertical Use Cases" considers specific use cases in the following key industries:
Manufacturing – perhaps the most opportunistic and demanding industry for wireless optimizations that 5G promises to satisfy.
Mining – which has been using 4G LTE technology for several years and offers numerous key lessons.
Utilities – a huge emerging sector where 4G LTE and 5G technologies can deliver benefits on an impressive scale.
Public health and education – offering immediate returns for better wireless connectivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gaming – which can take advantage of unique aspects of technology, such as Multi-Access Edge Compute and AR/VR.
