Colombia. Within the framework of the international festival Series Manía 2021, held in France, the Ministry of ICT and the Bogotá Audiovisual Market opened a space for the projection of audiovisual content from Colombian ethnic communities, winners in the national call "Abre Cámara 2020".
The event was held between August 27 and September 3 in person and virtually and is one of the most important European showcases for professional series.
Among the projects that were presented are: "Niñe, entallada", written by Juan Carlos Muchavisoy Chindoy and directed by Juan Carlos Jamioy Juagibioy; "El soplo del tiempo (Samai Kutij)", written by Sebastián Galvis and directed by the latter and Pedro Luis Jajoy Juajibioy; "Mariposa negra (Yale Peñinkau)", directed by Luis Trochez Tunubalá and written by the latter in the company of Mariana Mosquera, produced by Ángela Trejos, Ronald Pérez and the Resguardo Indígena Guambía, and the "Libro de los Misterios", directed by Reyson Velásquez and produced by Ciro Yacci Mendoza from Quibdó (Chocó).
The productions were at the stand "Community, Environment and Origins: Colombian Ethnic Audiovisual Contents", a space for recognition and dialogue of Europe with the producers of the Colombian ethnic communities.
"These spaces give us the possibility of approaching a new market that would be quite difficult to reach in other ways considering that in the regions there are few opportunities and spaces for dissemination. Our production, the book of mysteries, uses fiction and fantasy to bring the audience closer to the cosmogony of our peoples with African roots," said director Reyson Velásquez.
For his part, director Luis Trochez said: "We make films for our community. Our productions are to be enjoyed by the Misak people. That's our first target audience. However, we consider it important that through our audiovisual projects paradigms and collective imaginaries about our indigenous peoples are broken. And our participation in these festivals allows it."
